On the Sankey Canal at Penketh stands the Ferry Tavern, situated on the banks of the River Mersey. The Ferry Tavern dates from 1762 and has quenched the thirst of many travellers after crossing the Mersey on the Ferry from Moore. (Unfortunately the Ferry crossing has now closed). The old Ferry crossing to Moore at the Ferry Tavern became known as “Fiddlers Ferry”. The name Fiddlers Ferry is said to come from the owner of the land Adam Le Vicleur, whose name was abbreviated and became Violer which was then further abbreviated to Fiddler.
What a turnout from our club for a Wednesday night! At least 18 scooters from LSC. It was good to have Andy McMahon out with us again – you’re definitely becoming a regular! and Barry Merone on his YPVS 350 powered Lambretta. Also one of our newer members Dave Mangan, who’s been on most of the rideouts with us recently. We were joined along the route by Cloud9 and met up with Widnes S.C and the others at the pub. We hope Alan Jones from Cloud9 SC got back to the Wirral ok following his puncture – big Jimmy to the rescue with a spare wheel. It started raining on the way back but we were all home before it got too heavy.

Barry Merone’s RD350 powered Lambretta!
LSC are now making this an annual rideout on the LSC event calendar, as so many of the Scooterists that attended on the night said that they really enjoyed being at this lovely venue!
