A review of the charitable work carried out by LSC 2019

As we reach the end of 2019, it might be prudent to take a moment to reflect upon what the club has been involved with this year :

We’ve supported the Cloud 9 (Birkenhead) Tuesday rideouts, the ‘WednesdayClub’ rideouts, and the Lancashire Alliance midweek (Wednesday) rideouts. If any of these were not on, we organised our own! We’ve also supported both the North Wales and Borders Alliance and Lancashire Alliance Sunday rideouts.  Thanks to the good offices of the event organisers, very few of these events have clashed.

Our club members have also attended the Wild Atlantic Way Rally in Ireland, the Four Nations Rally in Scotland, the Vintage Motor Scooter Club events, and of course, the EuroLambretta Rally 2019 in Zakopane, Poland. We’ve also attended other rallies, both at home and abroad.

LSC held a very successful Open Day in July and which raised funds in aid of Kids in Need and Distress (KIND) and the Honeysuckle Foundation. The Honeysuckle Foundation is based at the Women’s Hospital and supports parents who’ve lost babies through stillbirth or other causes shortly after birth. We’ve also supported Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, both through rideouts at Easter and Christmas, taking Easter eggs, toys and selection boxes for the children as well as cash donations.

We visited the Sandy Park Café in Derby Lane recently to present a cheque to the Headteacher from Sandfield Park School. The school is for children with learning difficulties and helps them to become independent adults and hopefully go on to secure full time employment. To this end, they’ve set up the Sandy Park Café as a social enterprise to give them some work experience. It’s a fantastic venture and well worth a visit if you’re in Old Swan! It’s at the Queens Drive end of Derby Lane.

This really is only a small snapshot of what LSC have been involved with, so we’ve only listed the highlights!

Let’s also take a moment to think about our club members who’ve not been too well this year, in particular Brian, who’s still in hospital following a stroke, Mike Yuen, who’s had an operation and Billy Faragher who’s also had an operation. Get well soon guys !

Charity wise, we made the following donations in 2019:

Kids in Need and Distress = £500
Honeysuckle Foundation = £500
Sandfield Park Student Futures = £150
Alder Hey Children’s Hospital = £170
Marie Curie = £150
Total = £1470

The cheque presentation for £500 to the Honeysuckle charity at Liverpool Women’s Hospital. Mike and Lesley Yuen, Ian Morgan, Richie Ellison and Ernie were in attendance. Later that morning they all went off to the Sandy Park Café for a hearty breakfast!

So, yet another successful year for the City of Liverpool Scooter Club. We hope to continue in this vein into 2020. However, we can’t do it without your support, the support of the wider scootering community, the presenters at Radio Merseyside, Halton Community Radio, all the other media outlets who’ve publicised our events, and of course, the general public. We trust that we can rely on that support again next year.

Have a Happy New year everyone !   from all at Liverpool Scooter Club.
