It has become a tradition in recent years to have a scooter rideout around the Wirral peninsular the day after Boxing Day. The event was originally started by a small group of friends associated with Liverpool Scooter Club known as ‘The Penguins’ – (don’t ask !) when they rode to the Tap pub at Eastham Ferry. It has grown from those humble roots and is now organised by Cloud 9 S.C. from Birkenhead.
We met at our usual rendezvous point in William Brown Street, near to the entrance to the Mersey Tunnel. A good turnout from LSC considering the time of year and the cold weather. Fortunately, it was dry.
We then headed through the Tunnel to meet up with Cloud 9 and others at McDonald’s in Birkenhead. We estimated that approximately 80 scooters then left there at 12pm.
The run was quite straightforward with no breakdowns to our knowledge, although we did seem to go through Parkgate twice! We finally arrived at the Tap pub in Eastham which unfortunately, was closed due to the Covid restrictions. As we knew that this might be the case, we were well armed with flasks of tea / coffee and sandwiches or cakes. It was nice to see our friends that we haven’t seen for a while and have a socially distanced catch up and chat.
Before too long it was time to leave and we all went our separate ways. Our group stopped for petrol on the way home and we had an anxious moment when Ernie’s Vespa GTS refused to start. He should have come on his Lambretta, they’re much more reliable! We stopped on the way home for some ‘refreshments’ to round off an extremely enjoyable day.
Sadly, due to the expected Covid lockdown, it may be some time before we can get out again all together on two wheels. Until then, thank you once again to Dave Marble Johnson for organising the rideout and to those who attended.
Until we can do it all again, stay safe and have a Happy New Year from all at LSC.
